California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger had originally supported a bill that would criminalize paranoid schizophrenia. Because of the reported high incidence of paranoid schizophrenia among Jews it was feared the bill would disproportionately affect California's Jewish population and might be challenged on constitutional grounds.
